Our team of design and construction experts can rework the size of your living room, basement, or primary bedroom according to your needs. Event Recap: The 2023 Remodeler’s Summit Helps Industry Leaders Look Forward

Every year the Flansburg team looks forward to attending the Remodelers Advantage Summit, one of the most invigorating and informative industry events, and this year was no exception. We recently headed to Chicago to connect with fellow remodeling experts on the state of the industry, get a pulse on the trends to expect in 2024, and network with colleagues from all over the country.

This year’s theme was “Breakthrough: The Art of Overcoming Adversity”. It felt especially appropriate in light of the challenges that our industry has faced over the last few years, from supply chain issues to inflation. With a strong and encouraging message from the Keynote Speaker, Vince Poscente (who is an expert on resiliency), as well as a curated series of targeted workshops and breakout sessions, this year’s event provided tons of valuable information. Events like this help top companies prepare for success in the coming year, and beyond.

With 700 attendees, 38 speakers, 28 partners, and 32 different workshops, this enormous event had something to support everyone’s industry goals, providing valuable takeaways at every turn.

As a member of the Remodelers Advantage Roundtables Group (and Roundtables MVP award winner, to boot!) our owner, Dan Flansburg, shared some of his key takeaways from this year’s event:

“There are plenty of experts out there,” Dan said, “but there are few that create great relationships and deliver expert results.”

First, being a design-build industry expert is so important to the clients that we serve at Flansburg Construction, but even more so is cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with our clients, team members, and vendors.

Second, the secret to a successful business—no matter what the industry—is strong leadership, which isn’t always inherent, but rather a skill that must be learned and practiced in order to become effective.

As we move forward into a busy 2024, these lessons will help form an even stronger framework for us to continue to grow and flourish!

Improved Home Value

Today, people are looking for homes in New Jersey that are exactly what they need. They don’t want to buy a home that they know they’ll have to work on in a few years. By adding another bedroom to your home, many potential buyers will be interested when you’re eventually ready to sell. 60% of buyers in the last year said it was extremely important that a home included a spare or guest bedroom, according to Zillow. That’s why it’s important to contact us to start planning a residential home addition project to give potential buyers what they want once you’re ready to put your home on the market.

Avoid That Move

If you want or need another bedroom to have more functionality or space, then you may consider moving. However, planning a home addition is a lot easier. This way, you won’t have to worry about the hassle of moving and finding a new house that checks all of your boxes. You can get your dream home by expanding upon the one you already own. Our team has experience helping those in the area get everything they need without having to move away from the neighborhood.

3 Ways to Add More Excitement to Your Spare Room During a Remodel

Do you have a spare room you don’t use? Has it become a cluttered storage area? You’re not alone; many homeowners have guest rooms that are seldom used. Luckily, there are many ways you can add excitement and transform your space to make the most of it. With some careful considerations and a team of design build experts, anything is possible. Keep reading to get some inspiration and ideas for your spare room remodel.

1. Build a Walk-In Closet

A walk-in closet is at the top of most homeowner’s wishlists. In fact, according to House Digest, 79% of homeowners say a walk-in closet is their preferred type of closet. If your home doesn’t have one, now is your chance to build one! With the addition of custom shelving, hooks, and an ottoman or chair, a spare bedroom makes the perfect walk-in closet. Your design build remodeling company will be able to transform your unused spare room into a beautiful closet you’ll love spending time in.

2. Indulge in a Home Movie Theater

Who doesn’t love curling up with a blanket, some popcorn, and a good movie? With a home movie theater, you can get all the excitement of going out to the theater without the headaches. When you work with a design build remodeling company, you’ll be sure to get everything you need for your theater, including comfortable lounge seating, a professional sound system, and the right size screen. You can even install a popcorn maker!

3. Create a Home Gym

Do you love yoga, pilates, or just exercising in general? If so, creating a home gym out of your spare bedroom is a great idea. Your design build remodeler can install large wall mirrors, rubber gym flooring, and all the equipment you may need to get your workouts in at home.

There are an abundance of things you can do with a spare room remodel other than those listed above. You can create a home office, library, laundry room, kid’s playroom, home bar, den, and more! Aging With Grace: Creating a Home for Later in Life

Your dream home might be perfect for now, but will it work in ten, fifteen, or even twenty years in the future? As families grow, change, and eventually age, so too should homes to accommodate future needs, and with a growing trend of multiple generations living together under one roof—or older homeowners choosing to age in their well-loved home instead of moving to a retirement community—a thoughtfully-designed space is an absolute must.

Choosing a Familiar Place

Now more than ever in recent history, parents, their children, and their grandchildren are choosing to live together under one roof for a multitude of reasons, ranging from being able to help with the grandkids and enjoying the bustle of a full house to circumventing the expenses (and long wait lists) that come with retirement communities. Whatever the reason, families are looking for ways to reimagine their homes to carve out space for all three generations to comfortably coexist.

In the same vein, large numbers of empty nesters are choosing not to relocate, opting instead to stay in their beloved homes, with some much-needed modifications to ensure their safety and comfort as they age in place.

For the design-build industry, these two distinct groups of clients each have their own needs, but approach firms like Flansburg with the same goal: to create a space that’s as functional as it is beautiful.

Designing With Elements That Work

Gone are the days of plastic shower chairs, makeshift modifications, and ugly grab bars stuck to the walls. These days, there are endless accessibility-related products, materials, and design elements that are stunning enough to make a statement, but still safe enough to support the needs of aging family members.

In bathrooms, curbless showers, built-in grab bars and benches, nonslip flooring, and easy-to-reach storage are all options that our design team recommends to accommodate your—or your family members’—needs. Whether your style leans traditional or more modern, we can create the perfect spa-like experience while still putting your needs at the forefront of the design.

Throughout the rest of the house, key elements that are always worth incorporating (stylishly, of course) include doorways wide enough to comfortably fit a wheelchair or walker; transition-less flooring from room to room; and easy access to different levels of the house with ramps, a stairlift, or even an elevator.

Making Room for a Well-Lived Life

The point of these living options centers on creating a high quality of life as you or your older loved ones age, and a lot of that has to do with creating a space that feels just right.

In a multi-generational home, a full in-law apartment with its own separate kitchenette and laundry area might make the most sense. With accessibility considerations at the forefront (Think: lowered countertops, easy-to-access storage, and smaller appliances to fit the space), these apartments have the freedom to take on any style that their resident would like, just on a smaller scale.

For aging-in-place situations, it’s worth thinking carefully about how best to modify your home’s layout to help you preserve your independence. Does it make sense to move your primary suite to the main level now rather than eventually incorporating a chair lift? Is your outdoor living area just as accessible as the inside of your house? What about a guest space for family members who may need to come for extended visits to help out? You’ll also want to think about smart home options that might make life a bit easier, from alarm systems, doorbells, and thermostats to light switches, appliances, and even toilets.

No matter how you or your family members plan to live the later years of your life, the Flansburg team can help you do it in style in a space that was made just for you.
