5 Signs You Should Remodel Your Basement

A basement can be a valuable space in your home but only if you design it well. Sometimes you may find signs it’s time to turn your basement into a functional room. Here are a few of those signs you need to remodel your basement in New Jersey.

1. High Moisture Content

If your basement is partially below the ground, then there’s a good chance you deal with high levels of moisture. Due to the concrete slab that may sit directly on dirt, wetness will seep from the ground and into the concrete. Unfortunately, that wetness will be accompanied by bad odor and mold growth. According to This Old House, more than 60% of U.S. homes have wet basements and 38% run the risk of mold growth. The only way to resolve this issue is by hiring a basement remodeling contractor.

2. Your Basement Is Unusable or Unfinished

Is your basement currently an unusable space? It’s time to reconsider renovating the area. Picture an unused space as a blank canvas with many possibilities. You can remodel it into a laundry room, game room, kids’ playroom, library, or study room. Bringing any of these ideas to life will free up other levels of your home and have more space. There are many basement renovation ideas out there, and our team of experts can help you choose the right one for your lifestyle.

3. There’s Visible Damage in the House

All homeowners should have a professional check for structural damage in their homes every once in a while. Damage can be in many forms, such as compromised floor joists, a warping or bulging foundation, a cracked floor, evidence of insect damage, and water damage. Our experienced contractor will spot the damage, including the less obvious damage you hadn’t noticed.

4. It Has a Bad Appearance

Appearances matter, including the appearance of your basement, which you don’t use as much. If you’ve noticed that the poles, doors, and joists are less attractive than they used to be, then it’s time to call a basement remodeling contractor.

5. You Have Plumbing Issues

Certain plumbing problems can come from the basement. When water leaks from the sewer or pipes, it pours into the basement. It’s for this reason that most people don’t go to their basements a lot, but you can change this part of your lifestyle with our help!

Are you experiencing any of these issues in your basement? You need the services of a basement remodeling contractor. Our contractors are located in New Jersey and are ready to help transform your basement. Give us a call today to start planning.

1. Enjoy Nature from Inside

Do you ever dream of lying in bed while still being able to look up at the sun or stars on a New Jersey evening? Sunrooms are enjoyable in every season since they still offer plenty of natural light but have the insulation and climate control features of a home. When considering resale value, you’ll be glad to hear that, according to Home Advisor, there is a 49% return on investment (ROI) for sunrooms. This statistic shows a great reason to invest in this addition.

2. More Space to Roam

Whether you’re looking for a larger kitchen to entertain in or an extra bedroom for visitors, a home addition can provide the space you need. If you enjoy having guests for parties, overnight stays, or family reunions, then extra room ensures everyone is comfortable and can still have some privacy.

3. Increase Your Home Value

Adding space can increase the value of your New Jersey home. Whether you’re looking to sell your house shortly or just like to know that it’s worth more, adding an extra room will help. The higher square footage will bring a higher price tag.

Do you often find yourself asking who’s using the bathroom, then waiting in a long line to use it? Adding an extra restroom or two will help with that. Not only does it offer more convenience for your family and guests, but it can make all the difference when selling your home.

5. Create a Home Office

Take the time to create your home office or craft room. If you’re an entrepreneur or freelancer, having your own workspace at home is a must. Even if you don’t work from home, having an extra room to use as an office or hobby space is a great way to get creative.

New Outdoor Living Space Refreshes Lambertville Home

One of the best parts about this Lambertville home is the property’s gorgeous natural backdrop. But what good is a breathtaking view if there’s no outdoor space to enjoy it? The homeowners wanted our team to create an outdoor living space where they could enjoy the changing scenery from season to season, just off the back of their home.

So, we designed a traditional porch with a roof and deck that spans the entire rear of the house, blending perfectly with the existing architecture. The space is large enough to accommodate multiple seating areas for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the scenery.

The ceiling features a white beadboard detail that gives off an air of nostalgia, as well as two new fans to circulate the air on warm summer days.

We decided to use a hardy, PVC-coated composite material held together by hidden fasteners for the decking, which is certain to hold up for years of use.

One of the elements that our clients and our team wanted to incorporate was the existing large windows on this side of the house. We just love how they seamlessly connect the indoors to this new exterior living space.

Now, this family can enjoy their home’s beautiful surroundings in comfort and luxury! Are you looking to refresh your outdoor space? Get in touch today to learn more about how we can get you started!

How to Find the Right Design Build Firm for Your Next Remodeling Project

When considering a home remodel, it’s important to research design build firms to avoid any stressful surprises or issues throughout the process. Kitchen remodels are the most popular type of American remodeling project, according to Comfy Living, so there are many remodeling companies out there to choose from. Here are some ways you can find the right design build firms to help you.

1. Evaluate Your Remodel Priorities

The first step is to evaluate your needs. What kind of design do you want? What style are you going for? Once you have determined these factors, you can begin to look for firms that specialize in those areas. If you want a rustic kitchen, for example, you will not want to hire a company that specializes in contemporary design.

2. Get Recommendations

The next step is to get recommendations from friends, family, or neighbors who have recently gone through a remodel. Ask them about their contractor and if they would recommend them. Once you have a few design firms in mind, you can start to research them further.

3. Check Design Publications

Review print and online design publications to see if the design build firms you are considering have been featured. It’s a good way to get an idea of their design style and see if it’s a match for your project.

4. Set Up Interviews

Once you have narrowed down your list of firms, set up interviews with each one. You can get to know the staff and get a feel for their design process. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of their design philosophy.

5. Ask for References

Ask each design build firm for references from past clients. This is the best way to get an idea of their work and to see if they are a good fit for your project. When reviewing their websites, you may also see some testimonials from past clients.

6. Review Their Portfolio

Thoroughly review each portfolio to see examples of past work. This review will give you a sense of their design style and see if it matches your vision for your project.

By following these steps, you can be sure to find the right design build firm for your next remodeling project in New Jersey. Home remodeling is a big job, so you should only trust the right company with the work. Give us a call today at Flansburg Construction to get started on your next remodeling project.

How to Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing With a Remodeling Project

There’s nothing like a long, hot bath at the end of a stressful day. But if your bathroom isn’t exactly spa-like, it can be tough to relax. At least two in five American homeowners love relaxing in the bathroom, according to Houzz. Fortunately, a bathroom remodeling contractor can help turn your bathroom into a serene oasis. If you live in New Jersey, a hot bath in the long winter months can be even more relaxing. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Install a Luxurious Shower

If you’re not into baths, a rainfall showerhead can give you a spa-like experience right in your bathroom. Add a few body jets for a water massage. You could also consider installing a steam shower. Adding aromatherapy to your steam shower will enhance it further.

Add a Soaking Tub

Let your remodeling contractor install a soaking tub. Soaking tubs are deeper than standard tubs, so you can get a full body soak. Look for a tub with built-in jets for a truly luxurious experience.

Choose Relaxing Colors

When it comes to bathroom remodeling, don’t forget about the power of color. Certain colors can be very soothing, but others have an energizing effect. If you want a bathroom that’s conducive to relaxation, stick with calming colors like blue, green, or purple. You can also try using lighter shades of these colors.

Include Plenty of Storage

A cluttered bathroom can be stressful. If your bathroom is crammed full of toiletries, towels, and other items, it’s time to declutter. A bathroom remodeling contractor can add additional and stylish storage to your bathroom to help you keep it organized. It will free up space, so you won’t feel closed in during your bathroom retreat time.

Add Some Greenery

Plants can help purify the air and add a touch of nature to your bathroom. Your bathroom remodeling contractor can help you choose the right plants for your bathroom. Be sure to get plants that can thrive in the bathroom environment.

Your bathroom is a room you must be in daily, so try to make it as enjoyable as possible. With the help of a bathroom remodeling contractor, you can turn your bathroom into a relaxing retreat. Use these tips and give us a call at Flansburg Construction to get started on your bathroom makeover today.

What You Should Incorporate in Your Basement Remodeling Project

According to This Old House, 60% of homes in the United States have wet basements. About 38% also run the risk of mold. It’s important to ensure that your basement is dry at all times. If there is wetness, which is usually caused by leaks or faulty equipment, the problem should be addressed before any basement remodeling work is done. Once any wetness is resolved, here are some things you should do as part of basement remodeling.

Insulation

Insulation is an important part of remodeling. If you are turning your basement into a livable space, you must ensure it’s comfortable. Insulating your basement also helps with energy savings. If the basement is properly insulated, you won’t have to spend as much money to heat it. You should research to determine the best insulation to use in your basement or consult your basement remodeling company, which can also help out.

Flooring

During your basement remodeling project, you may also want to install new floors. The first step would be to choose the best flooring material for your basement. Whatever you choose should be able to withstand moisture and high humidity. This includes ceramic tile, carpeting, cork, laminate, and linoleum. Depending on your needs, your basement remodeling company will be able to figure out the best type of floor to install.

Utility Installation

Utility work may sound daunting, but your licensed basement remodeling contractor will handle everything. This includes things like electricity, plumbing, and air duct work. You want your basement to be safe and comfortable, so having the necessary utilities will be essential to your project.

These are just a few of the things that should be part of your basement remodeling project. The amount of work that needs to be done depends on what you are turning the basement into whether it be a home office, gym, in-law suite, or something else.
