A Modern Bathroom Makeover in Robbinsville for Two Busy Parents

With two kids, multiple cats, one dog and several guinea pigs—not to mention a full activities schedule— it’s safe to say that our clients, Cheryl and Eric, maintain a very full and busy lifestyle centered around their family and home. While their Robbinsville, NJ house works fairly well for them and their menagerie, one thing it didn’t have was a quiet retreat where these active parents can unwind and rejuvenate after a long day.

With a cramped and dated primary bathroom, they decided it was time to take on a renovation to get the spa-like oasis that they so desperately wanted.

Out With the Old, Dated Design

Cheryl and Eric couldn’t stand the dated 1980s vibes their bathroom gave off. The style simply didn’t make sense with the rest of the house, which was built in 2005, and it definitely didn’t match the modern design that this couple loves. A predictably bulky jacuzzi tub dominated the room and felt out of balance with the small and dark shower stall that was tucked into the corner. Moreover, when it came to storage, there simply wasn’t enough. Fortunately, for Cheryl and Eric, we could see the room’s potential and set about reimagining the space to better meet their needs.

Reconfiguring the Room

At the top of Cheryl and Eric’s list of must-haves were a soaking tub, a larger luxe shower, and a linen closet. To make enough space, we began by removing a half wall and then moving the doorway nine inches, which gained us the space we needed to build a custom, frameless shower complete with a bench and storage niche. Next, we modified a corner bump in the wall, which housed piping and wiring, to accommodate a coveted linen closet that is now the right size to store towels, products, and so much more. Finally, a gorgeous freestanding Vetralla white tub by Victoria and Albert with a floor mounted faucet was placed under the window to create the ultimate focal point for the space.

How We Created a Modern Oasis

To elevate the bathroom further and give it that spa-like feel, our design team used organic, clean lines, drawing inspiration from nature. The lovely grain of the floor tile is arranged in a herringbone pattern and contains various shades of gray to blend with the other materials throughout the room.

A 72-inch modern floating double vanity pulls in a darker tone without feeling too heavy, while the Calcutta Ultra quartz countertop and Metropol single lever faucets tie in beautifully with the shower tiles.

In the shower, Plata Brina matte hex tiles grace the floor and the custom niche, while large 12-by-24-inch wall tiles blend seamlessly with the Calcutta quartz bench. To add another layer of depth to the design, we selected a contrasting pewter frost grout for the niche, which ties in perfectly with the gray tones of the surrounding tile. A rain machine shower head and Leticia handheld in a chrome finish complete the space and promise a luxurious experience.

Sleek lighting fixtures add to the modern style without dominating, and the natural light that filters through the window provides a connection with the surrounding landscape that helped inspire this stunning interior.

Made for Relaxation

This updated space is now everything Cheryl and Eric wanted. It’s the perfect spot for them to retreat from the chaos of everyday life and unwind in quiet, spa-like solitude. Carving out “quiet time” used to be a challenge for these homeowners, but has become much easier now that they have this gorgeous, modern primary bathroom to retreat to after a long, difficult day.

Why You Should Invest in a Residential Home Addition in 2023

Most homeowners will eventually face the question of whether they should make some home additions or move to a new house that better accommodates their needs. Moving is a huge undertaking for a family. If your current home needs some changes, but you are not willing to move, having a residential home addition built could be the answer you are looking for. Zillow estimates that 60% of buyers cited that having a spare room, guest room, or flex space was extremely important to them. This quick guide will look at a few great reasons to have a home addition built in 2023.

Growing Family

If your family is growing, you will simply need more space. Ensuring that everyone in the home has an appropriate amount of space is crucial to the happiness and well-being of your family. Even if your family is not growing yet, but you have plans for expanding in the near future, making enough space for everyone is practically necessary. Having a home addition built on to your current home is a great way to accomplish this goal without the upheaval of moving.

Specialized Space

A growing family may not be the only reason someone would want more room. Many families discover that they want to have specialized spaces in their homes. This could include a game room, an office, a craft room, or a sunroom, to name a few. These types of spaces really improve the quality of life for you and your family.

Add Value to Your Home

Home improvements of this scale make a residential property more desirable in the real estate market. According to the National Association of Realtors, every 1,000 square feet added to your home increases its sale price by at least 30%. Clearly, a home’s value is upped significantly by the additional square footage that comes with an addition. Incorporating a new suite or office into your home will not only benefit your comfort and quality of life now, but also in the future if you ever plan on reselling.

If you are thinking about investing in a residential home addition, contact Flansburg Construction today! We’d love to give you the rundown of our full-service remodeling work and how we can transform your home.

Is Your Basement a Storage Space? Here’s Why You Should Remodel It

If you are using your basement as a place to store your belongings, then you may be underutilizing your space. According to the Design-Build Institute of America, 47% of construction spending is anticipated to be spent in the design-build industry completing tasks, such as basement remodeling. Here are a few of the key reasons why you should consider this project this year for your New Jersey home.

It Adds Value to Your Home

One of the reasons why you should consider remodeling an unfinished basement is because finishing this area helps increase the value of your home. This is especially important if you are looking to have your home appraised so you can take out a second mortgage or home line of credit, or for those who may be looking to sell their home in the near future. Many potential buyers want to find a home that has a finished basement for their growing families. You may even notice it adds more value to your family’s life because there’s a whole new area everyone can hang out in.

It Creates More Usable Space in Your Home

If you feel cramped or cluttered in your home, you are not alone. Who wouldn’t love to have an extra family room, an extra bedroom, or a space that they can use for their hobbies, such as a yoga room or a gym? When you remodel your basement, you can take unusable space and turn it into an area that increases the size of your home while giving you more of the area you need to wind down or hang out with family and friends. You can turn it into anything you want and improve your family’s life.

Basements are valuable spaces that can be utilized for far more than storage space. You can turn it into something that is far more usable and valuable than just a place to store holiday decorations, unused kitchen appliances, or toys. If you are interested in learning more about basement remodeling in New Jersey, then reach out to us today. We would love to help you create the perfect space for your family in your unfinished basement. We can even show you past projects we’ve done, so you can get some inspiration if you don’t know what you want it to look like.

What Are the Benefits of an Open Concept Kitchen?

Most homeowners spend a lot of time in their kitchens, which is why remodeling this space is so common. In fact, according to ComfyLiving, kitchen remodels are the most popular homeowner project in the United States. If you’re considering an open concept kitchen, check out these five great benefits.

More Space

If you have a large family or love to cook elaborate meals, there’s nothing worse than having limited space. An open concept means you have more functional space in your kitchen, so you can prep all your food and still have a spot to set your drink and your phone while you cook.

Better Lighting

Traditional cooking spaces are hard to light because they’re sort of closed off. Cabinets can get in the way of lights, which can make it hard to see what you’re doing. Open concept kitchens get a lot more even lighting, so you can see where you’re going and what you’re doing at all times.

Socialization

Kitchens are a popular social spot, and you can make the space even better for socialization by opening it up. If you have guests in the living room or dining room, you can chat and enjoy some drinks while you’re cooking thanks to your open kitchen!

Better Airflow

Airflow is crucial, especially if you like cooking with high heat or especially pungent ingredients. An open concept kitchen provides a little more airflow, which means you don’t have to worry about filling up the space with steam or having it smell like dinner from a week ago.

A Clear View

As a parent, it’s nice to be able to keep an eye on your house to see what everyone’s up to. An open kitchen makes it easier for you to look out in the living room and dining room to see what your kids are doing. If you set up a TV in your line of sight, you can even enjoy your favorite shows or sports while you cook.

A kitchen remodel is one of the best investments you can make as a homeowner, especially if you spend a lot of time in this space. If you want to learn more about how you can transform your home with an open concept kitchen, contact Flansburg Construction! We look forward to learning about your ideas.

3 Home Additions and Remodels to Improve Relaxation and Wellness

Even if you have a beautiful home in New Jersey, you may need more home additions that aid in your relaxation and wellness. After all, up to 50% of homes in the U.S. existed before 1980, according to ComfyLiving. Home remodels have come a long way since then. With home remodeling services on deck, you have several options to add to your already beautiful home. You may need extra sun, wish to bathe in luxury, or have more privacy. Read on to see some of the best home additions and remodels to invest in for your wellness.

1. Sunroom

Natural sunlight can aid your mood and overall health. According to Very Well Mind, relaxing in the sun has mental health benefits. However, you may not feel like going to the New Jersey boardwalk or dealing with summer insects outside. With a sunroom addition, you can easily soak in the natural rays from the comfort of your home.

2. Spa Bathroom

You have several ways to turn your primary bathroom or other bathrooms in your home into the spa of your dreams. Remove that outdated shower/tub combo for a rainfall shower and a deep claw tub for enhanced soaking after a long day. You can even install a jacuzzi right in your bathroom to improve the comfort even more. If anyone in your home has mobility issues, then there are also walk-in tub and shower options to make it easy to enjoy the spa treatment.

3. Finished Basement

You can greatly increase your home value by finishing your basement. When you want to spend time with your family or your children want to have their friends over, the basement can be a great place to host friends and family and have fun. This remodel can be a huge benefit to your entire family.
